You may still have a golden tan fresh from your summer holiday, or it might be that your summer break seems a distant memory. Either way, there’s no denying that with only a few months left of 2016, it’s a good time to start thinking about where you’re going to see in the new year. Book soon and you could bag some great early bird discounts. Leave it too late and you’ll be paying a premium for last minute travel & accommodation.
Everyone knows that visiting places such as Rio, Cape Town, New York or Sydney would be amazing at any time of the year, let alone over new year’s eve, but you don’t have to travel so far to still experience new year celebrations in style. If you’re on a limited budget, or simply can’t afford to take too much time off work, then we have some closer to home suggestions for you.
Edinburgh, Scotland
Forget Edinburgh if you’re looking for a relaxing, warm weekend away - there’s no denying it will be a chilly experience, but the hustle and bustle, excitement, whiskey and fireworks of the annual Hogmonay (Scotland’s world-famous new year festival) makes it a new years eve to remember. The official website for 2017 is already live, with an events calendar that includes details of the the street party, old town ceilidh, concerts and processions on the 31st, plus a number of other events taking place over the surrounding few days. Whether traveling alone, as a couple, or as a party of many, it’s an experience not to be missed. Book your flights or train travel and accommodation now via bookitearly.com
Berlin,
Looking for a party to remember? Berlin has plenty to choose from! Visit the NYE party Berlin website to find out about each one - make an informed decision as to which venue is the one for you and purchase your tickets online. Berlin’s biggest outdoor party and public firework display can be found at the Brandenburger Tor. In addition to the fireworks you’ll find various live music and international DJs, light & laser shows and food stalls, all distributed along a two-kilometre stretch. Last year more than one million people chose the Brandenburger Tor to see in the new year, partying the night away until dawn.
Amsterdam,
If you’re up for a good party, Amsterdam is a safe bet. The Oosterdok or ‘Eastern Dock Island’ is the official place to celebrate with incredible fireworks, light and sound on the stroke of midnight. There are a number of historical areas of the city where you’re guaranteed to have a good time including Rembrandtplein, Nieuwmarkt, Leidseplein and Dam Square. Here you’ll fine beer tents, live shows and music being enjoyed by many, plus a number of ticket only parties that you can pre-book to be sure you have a venue in which to party the night away. Looking for something a little more peaceful? There are plenty of good restaurants to try and you can view the numerous city fireworks from the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge).
Paris,
Paris is one of the most vibrant and colourful places to see in the new year. Although there are no longer any official firework celebrations, there are plenty of other things to see and do. You’ll find the largest crowds at The Champs-Elysees where the streets are lined with stunning lights and decorations. Here you get a good view of the Eiffel tower which, at the stroke of midnight, beautifully lights up. There are also a number of places to dine and/or party both before and after midnight. One of the best known parties is at the Moulan Rouge – enjoy a champagne dinner, dancing and music with the Moulin Rouge Orchestra before dancing till dawn at the post-midnight show. If you’re looking for something a little less conventional, The Sacre Coeur plaza in Montmartre is a significantly calmer place to bid farewell to the current year. On a clear night, the knolltop vantage affords spectacular views of the entire Paris skyline. The Montmartre street party is more relaxed than the Champs-Elysees gathering and there are numerous bars, cabarets, and clubs to explore in Montmartre and nearby Pigalle.
Vienna
Vienna might not be your obvious choice to spend new year, but for all the romantics out there – it’s a good one! Party in style at the glamerous ball and gala dinner at the town hall where you can dine and waltz to a live orchestra. At midnight you can watch the fireworks with a glass of champagne out on the balcony of the authentic building. There are numerous other classical music events, concerts, galas and balsas well as a planned event at the opera house. There are also great options for the less romantically inclined - The Silvesterpfad is an annual grand street party and is the main event at New Years Eve in Vienna. You’ll find several free open air concerts in Vienna’s historic city centre where you can listen & dance to all kind of music. From 2pm the whole pedestrian area turns into one big party where thousands of people gather to celebrate. There are plenty of organised firework displays which you’ll be able to see from almost anywhere in town.
